The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chagaev misses with a double jab
and Whitaker counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Chagaev tries to close the distance and clinch up but Whitaker swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Chagaev shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Whitaker pinned against the cage. Whitaker gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Chagaev throws a sloppy head kick and Whitaker moves out of range easily.
Whitaker connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Chagaev throws a series of punches but Whitaker avoids them all with ease.
Chiwawa Chagaev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
