The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left and a right from Gates both land. Nice combination.
Gates staying out of range there.
Jones forces Gates back against the cage and clinches.
Jones lands with a right to the head.
Jones prevents Gates from breaking the clinch.
Jones lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Jones lands a nice uppercut.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Gates.

Gates wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jones cracks Gates with a nice body shot.

Jones pushes Gates back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Jones gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Gates regains guard.
Gates is looking to stand up but Jones isn't so interested in that idea.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Gates is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round.

Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Gates is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gates is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jones postures up in Gates's guard and throws a big left but Gates blocks it.
Jones thows a big elbow that misses.
Jones stopping the sweep attempt from Gates.
Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Gates keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones throws a sloppy strike and Gates has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Jones is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Gates!
