PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Burbank Bulldog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sevak Magakian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bulldog comes to the cage accompanied by British Bulldog. Magakian has chosen Sevak Magakian Highlights as his entrance music. The key to victory for Burbank Bulldog has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bulldog feints and as Magakian raises his hands in defense, Bulldog changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Bulldog gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Magakian moves out of range of the strikes.
Bulldog tries to clinch there but Magakian circles away.
Magakian tries a head kick but it misses.
Magakian dodges the punch combination from Bulldog.
Bulldog shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Magakian counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Bulldog kicks off Magakian and gets to his feet.
Bulldog avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bulldog closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Magakian has clasped his hands together around Bulldog's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Magakian wants to control but Bulldog is keeping him busy.

Magakian tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Magakian has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Magakian stands up and beckons Bulldog to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bulldog takes a kick to the side of the head.
Bulldog displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Magakian.
Bulldog is looking to clinch but Magakian is avoiding it.
Magakian tries to land a body kick
and Bulldog connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Magakian tries to score with a low kick but Bulldog moves his leg out of the way.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bulldog sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Magakian is looking to take a break and control but Bulldog is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bulldog controls Magakian momentarily but Magakian frees himself.
Magakian throws a strike but Bulldog rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sevak Magakian will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Bulldog slaps away a takedown attempt from Magakian, before circling back to the center of the mat.
No joy there for Bulldog, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Magakian counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Magakian's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Magakian must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Magakian throws a strike but Bulldog rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Bulldog is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Bulldog gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Bulldog has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Magakian can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bulldog throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Magakian escapes and throws Bulldog's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Magakian decides to stand back up. Magakian steps back and let's Bulldog get back to his feet.

Bulldog gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Magakian to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Magakian with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Sevak Magakian showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Magakian stands up and waves to Bulldog to follow him.
Magakian has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Magakian is just content to waste time from the top position. Bulldog takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Magakian seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Bulldog pushes Magakian off and scrambles back to his feet.

Magakian has his foot on Bulldog's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bulldog works his way back into a safe position though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bulldog slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Burbank Bulldog.
I think Magakian has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
