PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tyler Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Markey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thompson comes to the cage accompanied by "Action!" by Street Drum Corps. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson throws a looping overhand right but Markey ducks down to avoid it.
Thompson connects with a right hand. Markey shakes it off.

Markey clinches.

Thompson manages to break the clinch.
Thompson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Thompson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Markey.
Markey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Thompson's waist but Thompson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Markey off to one side.

Markey clinches up with Thompson and pushes him back against the cage.
Markey tries to break the clinch but Thompson is controlling the position.

Thompson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Thompson looks to throw the jab but Markey is out of range.
Thompson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Markey tries to close the distance and clinch up but Thompson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Thompson's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Thompson duly obliges.
Thompson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Thompson loads up on a big right hand but Markey slips the punch.
A telegraphed right hand from Thompson misses the target.

Thompson moves out of range of the body kick.
Markey fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Thompson checks it well.

Thompson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Markey ducks straight into an uppercut from Thompson and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Markey manages to regain guard straight away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Markey lands a couple of elbows.
Thompson has momentary wrist control but Markey slips an elbow through the middle.
Markey slips nicely into half guard.
Markey trying to mount his opponent but Thompson defends it.
Markey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Thompson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Markey decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Markey closes the distance and pushes Thompson back into the cage.
Thompson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Markey has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Thompson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Tyler Thompson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Markey.

Thompson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Markey gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Thompson.
Markey ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Thompson moves away.
Markey looks gassed!
Thompson scores with a sloppy right hand. Markey should have avoided that one.
Thompson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Markey as he jumps to the side.
Markey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Markey ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thompson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Markey looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Thompson swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Markey.
Thompson is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

A jab from Thompson finds it's way through Markey's defenses.
Thompson cracks Markey with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Markey tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Thompson pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Markey is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
