The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ballantine throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ballantine wants to clinch but Alves slips to the side
and Alves counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Alves lands with an uppercut that bounces Ballantine off the cage and back into rage.
Nice cross by Alves.
Ballantine tries to clinch
and Alves counters with a thumping low kick.
Ballantine moves out of range as Alves throws a body kick.
Ballantine throws a body punch but Alves moves out of range.
Wayne Ballantine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A solid body kick from Alves.
Alves fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ballantine has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Alves throws a head kick that misses.
Ballantine fails with an attempt to clinch.
Alves is looking to clinch but Ballantine is avoiding it.
Alves scores with a head kick.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ballantine throws a left and a right that both miss
and Alves counters with a head kick.
Ballantine misses with a hook to the body
and Alves counters with a flying knee that drops Ballantine! Alves dives in and finishes the fight with a flurry of strikes from the mount!
