Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Drew BDown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Davey Boy Richards!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richards has a takedown stuffed.
Richards tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but BDown paws at him with a jab and circles away.
BDown defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Richards.
Richards shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with BDown but BDown pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Drew BDown has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Davey Boy Richards.
Richards shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts BDown as he jumps to the side.
Richards closes the distance looking to clinch
and BDown counters with a takedown into side control.
Richards is trying to get back to half guard.
BDown wants to stand but Richards has his arm trapped.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Richards is looking to reverse the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Richards looks gassed!
Richards sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
BDown wants to stand up but Richards has a hold of him and won't allow it.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Richards wants to get back to full guard.
Richards is pressing down on BDown's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Richards is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Richards is working an open guard so BDown takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Drew BDown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
BDown goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
BDown feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Richards sprawling to the canvas! Richards rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can BDown finish him?!
Richards is rocked!
It looks like Davey Boy Richards has been cut.
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! BDown has cracked Richards with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! BDown lands another huge swinging hook and Richards tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Richards, before BDown can land any more shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Drew BDown!
