Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jonathan Hawkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, German Shepherd!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shepherd moves away from the strike by Hawkins.
Shepherd throws a head kick that half lands.

Hawkins closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Shepherd is trying to stand back up but Hawkins is controlling him
Shepherd is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Hawkins slows the pace down in half guard.
Hawkins throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hawkins tries to pass to full mount but Shepherd defends it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hawkins fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shepherd manages to avoid it.
Nice sprawl there from Shepherd as Hawkins shoots in.

German Shepherd is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Shepherd tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hawkins paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Shepherd moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Hawkins swats away the attempt to clinch by Shepherd.
Shepherd uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hawkins.

Shepherd throws a head kick that misses.
A telegraphed right hand from Hawkins misses the target.
Hawkins avoids the head kick by Shepherd.
Shepherd misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Shepherd throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Shepherd tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hawkins swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hawkins scores with a shot to the body.
Shepherd bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Shepherd throws a head kick that misses.
Hawkins throws a hook to the side of Shepherd's head but Shepherd sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Shepherd tries to close the distance and clinch but Hawkins swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hawkins misses with a wild body shot.
Shepherd keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Hawkins.

Hawkins circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hawkins takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

and Hawkins counters with a takedown into side control.
Hawkins tries to score with some ground and pound. Shepherd controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shepherd can do anything to dispel that myth.
Shepherd pushes Hawkins away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hawkins gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Hawkins wants to control but Shepherd is keeping him busy.
Hawkins is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Hawkins tries to score with some ground and pound. Shepherd controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Hawkins looks up at the clock and then as Shepherd takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hawkins smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Hawkins misses with the ground and pound.
Hawkins is looking to take a break and control but Shepherd is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hawkins is putting a hurting on Shepherd here, landing some big shots from side control.
Shepherd wants to get back to his feet but Hawkins drags him back down.
Hawkins is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Shepherd's shoulder. That is not cool.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonathan Hawkins dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Shepherd is looking to clinch.
Shepherd looks to land a combination but Hawkins avoids it well.
Shepherd tries a head kick but it misses.
Hawkins circles away from the clinch attempt
enabling Hawkins to counter with a crisp jab.
Hawkins keeps the fight on the outside.
Shepherd takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Shepherd fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hawkins throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
German Shepherd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Hawkins decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Shepherd's guard.
Hawkins lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hawkins pushes down on Shepherd's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hawkins moves into full mount! Shepherd won't be happy about that!

Hawkins with shots to the head and body - Shepherd looks very uncomfortable down there.
Hawkins looking to control but Shepherd is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Shepherd squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shepherd is breathing heavily.
Hawkins sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Hawkins is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Shepherd can't stay in a position like this for much longer.


It looks like German Shepherd has been cut.
Hawkins scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Shepherd?

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shepherd takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The referee warns Shepherd that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Shepherd is still in real trouble! Can Hawkins finish him?


That has opened up German Shepherd's cut even more.
Hawkins working away from the top, dropping strikes.


The cut above German Shepherd's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Shepherd really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hawkins. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

German Shepherd's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at German Shepherd's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
