Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Richard John!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts John as he jumps to the side.
John on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Johnson bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps John's head backwards.
John tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Johnson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
John with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Johnson to score with a decent uppercut.
John looks to clinch
and Johnson counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
John needs to keep his hands up - Johnson had a free shot at his head there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Johnson lands with a right hand.
Johnson scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt
and John counters with a nice leg kick.
John swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Johnson counters with a straight right hand.

John tries to keep at a distance but Johnson has taken the fight into the clinch.
Johnson wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
John has Johnson pressed against the cage, preventing Johnson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Johnson is trying to force a seperation but John has the dominant position.

John pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Johnson misses with a takedown

and John counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
John wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. John is aware though and is defending well.
John passes Johnson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Johnson is staying active underneath John, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
John looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Johnson gets back to full guard.
Johnson wants to stand up but John is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
John looking to sit in guard and control but Johnson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
John is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Johnson passes John's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Johnson works his foot free and advances to mount.
Johnson with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Johnson wants to finish this one by submission but John is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Johnson.

Johnson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Johnson is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But John has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from John!

Johnson is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but John frees his head nicely. Oh but Johnson has switched to an armbar! John is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Joe Johnson!
