PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Grigorij Saakaszwili (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iggy Guerrero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Iggy Guerrero told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grigorij Saakaszwili!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Iggy Guerrero!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saakaszwili with a poor takedown
and Guerrero counters with a straight right hand.
Grigorij Saakaszwili seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guerrero changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Guerrero tries to sprawl but Saakaszwili drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Saakaszwili missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Guerrero blocking the ground and pound attempt from Saakaszwili.
Guerrero wants to control but Saakaszwili is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Guerrero looks like he's trying to stand up.
Guerrero regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Saakaszwili.
Saakaszwili stands up over Guerrero, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Guerrero really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Saakaszwili. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Saakaszwili thows a big elbow that misses.
Saakaszwili has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Saakaszwili postures up in Guerrero's guard and throws a big left but Guerrero blocks it.
Guerrero wants to stand up but Saakaszwili is controlling him.
Saakaszwili trying to control the position from guard on top but Guerrero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Saakaszwili wants to get up but he can't break Guerrero's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Saakaszwili in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Saakaszwili trying to stand up but can't free himself from Guerrero's guard.
Saakaszwili postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Guerrero preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Saakaszwili trying to control but Guerrero is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Saakaszwili doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Guerrero finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
The crowd cheers as Guerrero lands an impressive looking overhand right. Saakaszwili doesn't seem phased though.
Saakaszwili tries for a takedown but Guerrero circles away easily
and Guerrero counters with a nice uppercut.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Grigorij Saakaszwili. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Saakaszwili misses with a takedown attempt
and Guerrero counters with a nice body shot.
Saakaszwili is breathing heavily.
Guerrero throws out a powerful jab.
Guerrero lands with a nice body punch.
Saakaszwili gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Guerrero counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Saakaszwili has his takedown stuffed
and Guerrero makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Guerrero stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
A left lands for Guerrero.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Guerrero lands a nice hook to Saakaszwili's body. Saakaszwili takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Guerrero is looking to slow Saakaszwili down with leg kicks.
Saakaszwili on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Saakaszwili takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Guerrero is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Saakaszwili had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Guerrero lands with a big left! Saakaszwili is wobbled badly! Guerrero comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Saakaszwili to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Iggy Guerrero!
