Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Peeta Mellark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyle Alzado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alzado is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: BLUNT- The Iron Maiden. Peeta Mellark has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peeta Mellark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lyle Alzado!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mellark misses with an uppercut
and Alzado counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Mellark throws a leg kick but Alzado checks it.
Mellark lands a lovely overhand right.
Mellark misses with a left hand
and Alzado connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Mellark.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alzado misses with a left hand
enabling Mellark to counter with a crisp jab.
Mellark tries to land a leg kick but Alzado saw it coming and moves away.
Mellark does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Mellark tries to clinch there but Alzado circles away.
Alzado shoots and misses
and Mellark counters with an inside leg kick.
Alzado has his takedown stuffed
and Mellark counters with a stiff right hand.
Mellark tries to clinch up but Alzado circles away and keeps his distance.
Mellark tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Mellark fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Alzado, pushing him back against the cage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Alzado throws a punch but it's blocked by Mellark.
Mellark misses with a knee to the head.
Alzado wants a takedown.
Peeta Mellark has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lyle Alzado.
Mellark stalling the fight.
Mellark unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Mellark scores with a nice hook to the head.

Alzado wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Alzado has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mellark is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Alzado throws a punch but it's blocked by Mellark.

Mellark gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Alzado.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Mellark.

Mellark seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Alzado takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Alzado throws a lazy right hand but Mellark sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Mellark leaves Alzado with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Alzado closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mellark quickly recovers to half guard.
Alzado is trying to control the action in half guard but Mellark is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mellark keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Mellark is looking to control Alzado's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mellark avoid being mounted?

Alzado has gone for a leg lock! Mellark slips out almost immediately though and dives into Alzado's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Alzado is on top in guard.

Alzado throws and elbow that misses. Mellark uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Alzado's guard. Nice move by Mellark!
Alzado wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alzado has a closed guard, preventing Mellark from standing up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Alzado connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mellark looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mellark throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Alzado fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mellark pivots, looking for a leg kick but Alzado is out of range and Mellark settles back down.
Mellark scores with a jab.

Alzado shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mellark defends it nicely.

Mellark is looking to clinch but Alzado is avoiding it.
Mellark throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mellark lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Alzado on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Mellark. Mellark obviously looking to wear him down.
Mellark bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Mellark fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Alzado has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Alzado is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Mellark reverses the position - he's now on top in Alzado's guard.
