The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pietila's corner calls for a 1-2. Pietila obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Gaines on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Gaines shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pietila's guard.

Pietila has the Thai plumb, controlling the head nicely. He loads up with a big knee to the head and Gaines goes down! Pietila pounces into side control - this one could be over soon!

It looks like Jack Gaines has been cut.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pietila has hold of Gaines's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Gaines tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Pietila cranks the arm and Gaines screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Gaines, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
