Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chael Sonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Jonas Angstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sonen comes into the arena with Not Afraid blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chael Sonen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Karl Jonas Angstrom!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Angstrom has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sonen.
Nice takedown defense from Sonen. No joy for Angstrom on that attempt.
Angstrom closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sonen circles away.
Angstrom misses with a takedown
and Sonen counters with a nice low kick that buckles Angstrom's knee momentarily.
Chael Sonen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karl Jonas Angstrom.

Sonen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sonen lands in his opponent's guard.
Angstrom pulls Sonen in close to prevent any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Angstrom can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sonen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Angstrom is proving hard to escape from.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Angstrom is on top in guard.
Angstrom wants to pass the guard but Sonen is keeping the position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Angstrom's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Angstrom decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sonen, up you get!
Angstrom stuffs the takedown attempt from Sonen. Sonen gets slowly back to his feet.

Angstrom closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sonen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sonen misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Sonen is looking for a sweep. Angstrom is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Angstrom thows a huge punch but Sonen dodges it nicely.
Sonen is trying to get back to full guard.

Angstrom is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Sonen has managed to free his arm - good work.
Angstrom is looking to take a break and control but Sonen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Angstrom winds up and cracks Sonen with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sonen throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Sonen on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Angstrom in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Sonen tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Angstrom!
