PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wa Sa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Cones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sa comes to the cage accompanied by Fat Lip. Cones has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wa Sa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jan Cones!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Hirohito Nitta and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Sa shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sa showed some decent athleticism there.
Sa perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Nice strikes from Sa there.
Sa content to control rather than advance.
Sa seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cones for as long as he can get away with.
Sa working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Sa controlling the pace.
Sa is looking to advance position but Cones won't allow it.

Sa is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cones is just riding it out for now. Sa eventually gives up the hold.

Sa seems to be looking for submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sa takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Nice strikes from Sa there.
Cones pushes Sa off looking to stand but Sa dives back in and keeps control.
Cones looks gassed!
Cones scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Sa manages to mount him!
Sa controlling from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sa postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Cones looks a forlorn figure.
BOOM! Sa connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Sa tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Cones wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
What can Cones do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Cones trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Sa is riding his opponent, not letting Cones buck him off.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Sa.

Sa working for a choke but Cones is defending well.
I would not like to be Cones right now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wa Sa dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Sa shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sa takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Sa landing strikes from the mount.
Sa raining down shots from the mount!
Cones wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Sa is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Cones can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Cones is breathing heavily.

Sa landing strikes from the mount and Cones is in trouble!
Sa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cones is in all sorts of trouble here.
Sa looking to control and managing it successfully.
Sa has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sa has control of Cones's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Cones regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Cones tries to lock up and control but Sa gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sa working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Sa tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cones wants to try and get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wa Sa dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A clash of legs there as Cones blocks the low kick.
No luck for Sa with that takedown attempt.
Sa fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cones tries to clinch up but Sa circles away and keeps his distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Cones is looking to break free of the clinch but Sa has double underhooks.

Cones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Cones shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Cones gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sa landing some decent shots from guard.
Wa Sa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sa decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Cones, up you get!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cones looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
A control attempt from Cones but he's now mounted!
Sa looking to control and managing it successfully.
Cones tries to lock up and control but Sa gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Cones is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Sa controlling from the full mount.

Sa unloading with bombs!
Sa in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Sa sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Sa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cones can do to turn this around?
Cones is in a horrible position here. Sa smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Sa is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Cones to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Cones shrugs it off.

Cones has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Jan Cones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wa Sa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wa Sa showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
