Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rolls Royce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jonah Smith!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Royce jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Smith is looking to score with low kicks.
Jonah Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Royce throws a leg kick
and Smith counters with a one-two to the body.
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Royce moves out of range easily.
Smith uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Royce.
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Smith lands a really nice looking cross but Royce seems unphased.
Royce chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Smith can pounce on him.
Royce misses with a leg kick
and Smith counters with a nice body kick.
Smith misses with a few strikes there.
Royce shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smith defends it nicely.
Royce changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Royce thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith is trying to buck Royce off.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Royce scoring with punches and elbows.
Royce tries to score with some ground and pound. Smith controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Royce moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Royce has hold of Smith's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Smith tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Royce cranks the arm and Smith screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Smith, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Rolls Royce!
