PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Freddie Emilianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Giddy Smallman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Emilianenko might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to When the Tigers Broke Free. Smallman has chosen Alice in Chains - Sickman as his entrance music. The key to victory for Freddie Emilianenko has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smallman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

It looks like Giddy Smallman has been cut.

Emilianenko manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Smallman manages to get himself to full guard.

Smallman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Emilianenko defends it easily.
Emilianenko pushes down on Smallman's leg and manages to get into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smallman is squirming around, avoiding Emilianenko's attempts to control the action.

Smallman tries to reverse the position but Emilianenko maintains control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smallman moves in looking to clinch but Emilianenko pushes him off.

Emilianenko tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Smallman is able to avoid easily.
Smallman throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Emilianenko counters with a three punch combo that has Smallman backing up. Smallman nods at Emilianenko to acknowledge the strikes.
Emilianenko closes the distance but Smallman moves to the side
and Smallman counters with a left and a right that stings Emilianenko.
Smallman misses with a hook
and Emilianenko counters with a nice uppercut.
Emilianenko is looking to clinch but Smallman is avoiding it.
Emilianenko ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Smallman keeps the fight on the outside.
Emilianenko tries to clinch up but Smallman circles away and keeps his distance.
Smallman is breathing heavily.

and Smallman counters with a takedown into side control.

Smallman throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Emilianenko works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Emilianenko cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Smallman in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.


That has opened up Giddy Smallman's cut even more.
Smallman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emilianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Emilianenko is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Smallman is trying desperately to improve position.

Emilianenko is working for a rear naked choke. Smallman is not defending it well and Emilianenko has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Smallman refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Smallman's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
