Howell swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Silva throws a right and a left that Howell avoids nicely.

Silva closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Silva ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Silva no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Silva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Howell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Silva manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Howell tries to lock up and control but Silva gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Howell throws a left and a right that both miss
and Silva counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Howell throws a poor cross that misses
and Silva counters with a three punch combo that has Howell backing up. Howell nods at Silva to acknowledge the strikes.
Howell looks gassed!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Howell gets tackled into the cage by Silva. Silva maintains the clinch.
Howell tries to throw a body punch but Silva avoids it by throwing Howell back against the cage.

Silva jumps into guard, dragging Howell to the mat.
Howell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Silva pushes a forearm under Howell's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Howell is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ronaldo Silva!
