PBP Commentary

Bowron comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Pow kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ross Bowron!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowron uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Salace has time to react.
Bowron tries to close the distance and clinch up but Salace swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bowron doesn't manage to clinch there - Salace circles away.
Bowron tries to clinch but Salace moves out of range.
Bowron wants to clinch.
Bowron throws a series of punches but Salace avoids them all with ease.
Bowron swinging wildly here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salace shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bowron as he jumps to the side.
Bowron jabbing away but nothing is landing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bowron throws a hook to the side of Salace's head but Salace sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bowron throws a right and a left that Salace avoids nicely.

Salace shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bowron's guard.
Salace trying to control the position from guard on top but Bowron is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Salace has gone for a leg lock! Bowron slips out almost immediately though and dives into Salace's guard.

Salace working for a triangle but Bowron defends it easily.
Salace pulls Bowron in close to his closed guard and prevents Bowron from doing any damage or advancing position.
Bowron loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bowron avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Salace had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bowron defends it easily.

Salace is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Salace keeping moving, preventing Bowron from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bowron looks gassed!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ross Bowron was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Bowron doesn't manage to clinch there - Salace circles away.
An inside leg kick from Bowron misses.
Salace fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bowron looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Salace shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Salace tries to control but Bowron wriggling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Salace controlling his opponent.

Salace swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Bowron is now in Salace's guard. A big mistake from Salace there, giving up the dominant position!
Bowron must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Salace is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Bowron has his hands clasped together but Salace extends an breaks Bowron's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Salace.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Cecil Salace!
