PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Hitman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Tabares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hitman kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Champions. Tabares is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: down with the sickness. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hitman misses with the combination.
Hitman lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tabares circles away quickly and effectively.
Hitman moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Jacob Tabares has been cut.
Hitman closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tabares circles away.
Tabares keeps the fight on the outside.

Hitman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Tabares is trying to defend but Hitman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Tabares keeping control of the position.
Hitman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Tabares is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hitman's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hitman's back!

Tabares controlling the position well here. Hitman rolled but Tabares kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Hitman controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Tabares. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

Tabares really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Hitman.
Hitman turns into Tabares and is now in his guard.

Tabares is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Tabares escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hitman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hitman would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Tabares pulls Hitman in close to prevent any damage.
Hitman with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Tabares manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hitman manages to get himself to full guard.
Hitman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tabares slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Tabares should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Hitman is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Tabares forces his way into half guard.
Hitman is looking to improve his position.
Hitman is breathing heavily.
Tabares stalling.
Hitman wants to improve his position but Tabares is controlling well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hitman slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Tabares gets to his feet. Hitman looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Hitman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tabares defends it nicely.
Hitman tries to clinch but Tabares is having none of it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tabares forces Hitman back against the cage and clinches.
Tabares has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hitman avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Tabares breaks the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hitman enables Tabares to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hitman manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Tabares is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Hitman keeping full guard, as Tabares tries to pass.
Tabares stands up over Hitman, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Tabares seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Hitman is trying to stand.
Hitman manages to get to full guard.

Hitman wriggles free and stands up.

Tabares shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hitman is trying to defend but Tabares finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Tabares prevents Hitman from improving his position.
Hitman moves into full guard.
Jacob Tabares has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tabares postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Tabares controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hitman controls Tabares momentarily but Tabares frees himself.
Hitman wants to get back to his feet but Tabares is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tabares gets to his feet. Hitman looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Hitman closes the distance but Tabares moves to the side

and Tabares moves into the clinch.

Tabares's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Hitman tries to clinch there but Tabares circles away.
Tabares fails with a takedown attempt.
Hitman connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Tabares scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hitman is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Tabares prevents Hitman from escaping the position.
Hitman gets back to half guard.
Hitman wants to control but Tabares is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Hitman is looking to get back to is feet but Tabares passes into side control.
Tabares working away.
Hitman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Tabares is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Tabares stands up and beckons Hitman to his feet.

Tabares has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hitman misses with a knee strike.
A body shot lands from Tabares.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jacob Tabares showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Hitman misses with a takedown

and Tabares counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Tabares escapes and gets back to his feet.
Bret Hitman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hitman swats away the attempt to clinch by Tabares.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Tabares has eaten all the pies!
Hitman lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Hitman moves to clinch but Tabares breaks away

and Tabares counters with a shoot takedown. Hitman fights it but they end up in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hitman wants to stand but Tabares is controlling the position.
Tabares controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hitman wants to sweep here but Tabares controlling him for the moment.

Jacob Tabares has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Tabares pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tabares lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Tabares decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Tabares works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hitman tries to reverse the position but Tabares maintains control.
Hitman tries to hold on but Tabares postures up.
Tabares tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Tabares looking to control but Hitman is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Hitman holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Tabares tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Tabares throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Tabares prevents Hitman from getting the reversal.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hitman reaches up to try and control the position but Tabares seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Hitman rolls and tries to escape and now Tabares has his back!

Hitman rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Hitman tries to roll over but Tabares keeps him under control.
Tabares not doing much here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hitman is pressing down on Tabares's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Hitman trying to keep a closed guard but Tabares is proving a slippery customer.
Tabares content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Tabares trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hitman's guard.
Hitman lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tabares!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hitman is landing with some decent strikes but Tabares is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jacob Tabares comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tabares winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
