PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roy Gray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomasz Grosik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Roy Gray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tomasz Grosik!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grosik uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Gray.
Grosik doesn't manage to clinch there - Gray circles away.
Gray lands with a good body shot.
Grosik misses with a head kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gray.

Gray gets the takedown into side control.

Gray is trying to get an arm triangle but Grosik is defending well.

Gray decides to stand back up.
Gray misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gray throws a head kick that half lands.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Grosik throws a right and a left that Gray avoids nicely.
A punch lands to the side of Gray 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Gray forces Grosik back against the cage and clinches.
Gray jumps guard but Grosik stands there with Gray around his waist. Gray gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Grosik manages to break the clinch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Grosik throws a head kick that misses

and Gray counters with a shoot takedown. Grosik fights it but they end up in guard.
Gray tries to free his leg and advance position but Grosik is retaining full guard.
Gray wants to control from the top but Grosik keeps moving.
Gray is breathing heavily.
Gray not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Gray drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gray jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Gray connects with a couple of short punches.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gray accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gray stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Grosik swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gray postures up in Grosik's guard and throws a big left but Grosik blocks it.

Gray is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Grosik should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Grosik wants to stand up but Gray is controlling him.
Grosik preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Gray trying to control but Grosik is working from the bottom.
Gray trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Grosik has eaten all the pies!
Gray wants to control from the top but Grosik keeps moving.

Gray decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Grosik, up you get!

Gray has taken the fight to the clinch.
Gray tries for a takedown. No joy.
Gray tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Grosik smiles and moves away.
Grosik tries to clinch there but Gray circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gray moves out of range of the body kick.
Grosik moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Roy Gray has been cut.

Gray closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gray lands in his opponent's guard.
Gray throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Grosik avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gray pushes down on Grosik's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Gray wants to control but Grosik is keeping him busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gray not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Gray shoots in for a takedown but Grosik shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Grosik!
Gray dodges the punch combination from Grosik.
Gray is trying hard to land a takedown here. Grosik sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Grosik throws a sloppy head kick and Gray moves out of range easily.
Grosik tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gray paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Grosik feints and then cracks Gray's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gray down.
Tomasz Grosik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grosik lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Gray closes this distance looking for a takedown but Grosik circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roy Gray. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A decent looking cross lands there for Grosik.
Grosik throws a lazy head kick

and Gray counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gray is pushing down on Grosik's leg trying to pass to half guard. Grosik is fighting to maintain full guard but Gray has managed to sneak the leg through.
Gray stops Grosik from getting back to his feet.
Gray is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Grosik is defending against the submission attempts here by Gray.
Grosik looks like he's trying to stand up.

Gray is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Gray wants to take a breather but Grosik is having none of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Gray is looking for a kimura but Grosik is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gray to get the leverage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grosik wants to get back to his feet.

Gray is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Grosik is refusing to be controlled, as Gray sits in half guard.
Gray has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gray is trying to control. Grosik wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Gray seems to be looking for submissions.

Gray is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gray wants to take a breather but Grosik is having none of it.

Grosik slaps away a takedown attempt from Gray, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Grosik fails with an attempt to clinch.
Some wild striking there from Grosik.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Grosik enables Gray to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Grosik manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gray accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gray wants to control from the top but Grosik keeps moving.

Grosik pushes Gray off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Gray shoots in but Grosik avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sloppy strikes from Grosik. Those never looked like landing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gray shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gray was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Gray looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Gray working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Grosik's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Gray quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Gray but it's paid off an Grosik is forced to tap! Nice work by Gray.
