Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Bunoyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maks Smirnov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maks Smirnov will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, George Bunoyan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Maks Smirnov!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bunoyan ducks right into an uppercut from Smirnov.


It looks like George Bunoyan has been cut.
Smirnov fails with the takedown

and Bunoyan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Bunoyan postures up.
Bunoyan passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Smirnov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bunoyan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bunoyan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Smirnov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Bunoyan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smirnov won't be happy with that.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bunoyan decides to stand up, so the ref orders Smirnov to his feet.

Still in half guard, Bunoyan seems content to control.
Bunoyan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Smirnov for as long as he can get away with.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Still in half guard, Bunoyan seems content to control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

George Bunoyan has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Bunoyan won't allow Smirnov to sweep him here.

Smirnov is working an open guard so Bunoyan takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Bunoyan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Smirnov!
George Bunoyan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maks Smirnov.

Bunoyan is landing with some decent strikes but Smirnov is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Bunoyan is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Smirnov is defending well though. Bunoyan let's go of the attempt for now.

Bunoyan lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Smirnov.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bunoyan is riding his opponent, not letting Smirnov buck him off.
Bunoyan gets his hands free as Smirnov looks to control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Bunoyan.
Bunoyan keeps control of the position as Smirnov tries to break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Bunoyan tries to work over Smirnov's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Bunoyan lands with a right to the head.
Smirnov is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Bunoyan fails to pull guard.
Bunoyan goes for a takedown attempt but Smirnov pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Bunoyan gets the takedown into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bunoyan is looking to take a break and control but Smirnov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Bunoyan throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
A lull in the action here as Bunoyan stalls from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Bunoyan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up. George Bunoyan wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Smirnov doesn't manage to clinch there - Bunoyan circles away.

Smirnov gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Smirnov changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bunoyan fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Bunoyan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Smirnov quickly recovers to half guard.

Bunoyan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Smirnov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
George Bunoyan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smirnov wants to control but Bunoyan is keeping busy.

Well, if Bunoyan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Smirnov tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Bunoyan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Smirnov counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Smirnov wants to stand but Bunoyan has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Bunoyan gets back to full guard.

Bunoyan has his feet on Smirnov's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Smirnov moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bunoyan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Smirnov wants to control but Bunoyan postures up.

Bunoyan tries for a kimura but Smirnov is defending well.

Bunoyan has hold of Smirnov's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Smirnov seems comfortable defending it but Bunoyan has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Smirnov is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Smirnov is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Bunoyan couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). George Bunoyan!
