PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wladslaw Gomulka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Ring (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shane Ring told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wladslaw Gomulka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Shane Ring!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ring misses with the combination.
Ring swinging wildly here.
Ring swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A punch lands to the side of Gomulka 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Ring looks to land a left hand but Gomulka moved out of range nicely.
Ring swings for the body but Gomulka moves out of range.
Gomulka displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ring throws out the jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gomulka gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Gomulka breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ring rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Gomulka counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Ring misses with a combination

so Gomulka counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gomulka trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gomulka stops Ring from standing up.
Gomulka throws and elbow that misses. Ring uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gomulka's guard. Nice move by Ring!
Ring forces his way into half guard.

Ring is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Ring is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gomulka is just riding it out for now. Ring eventually gives up the hold.

Ring is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gomulka tries to get to full guard but Ring has control of the leg.
Ring wants to take a breather but Gomulka is having none of it.
Gomulka trying to hold on to Ring's head to control him but Ring postures up.
Gomulka on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gomulka tries to get out of the position.
Ring is controlling the pace.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Ring tries to bum rush Gomulka with a series of wild strikes but Gomulka uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ring throws a left and a right that both miss

and Gomulka counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ring's guard now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ring wants to get back to his feet but Gomulka is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Ring uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Ring misses with a body punch

and Gomulka counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gomulka stops Ring from standing up.

Ring is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Gomulka's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Ring looks to land a combination but Gomulka avoids it well.
Ring throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Gomulka counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ring won't be happy with that.

Ring sneaks out the side door and pushes Gomulka away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Ring misses with a few strikes there.
Ring falls off balance throwing a combination

and Gomulka decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ring's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gomulka throws a strike but Ring rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ring tries to free his leg and advance position but Gomulka is retaining full guard.
Gomulka wants to sweep but no luck.

Ring slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ring trying to control the position from guard on top but Gomulka is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Shane Ring was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ring throws a body punch but Gomulka moves out of range.
Ring misses with a series of wild punches.
Ring throws a series of punches but Gomulka avoids them all with ease.

and Gomulka counters with a takedown into side control.
Ring is pushing Gomulka's head away, looking to escape. Gomulka manages to hold on to the position though.

Ring is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ring throws Gomulka to one side and escapes!
Ring dips to his left and cracks Gomulka with an uppercut!


It looks like Wladslaw Gomulka has been cut.
Ring goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Gomulka clinches.
Ring is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Ring is looking to control Gomulka's arms but Gomulka gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ring has his back to the cage.
Ring is trying to push Gomulka away but Gomulka has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Ring is trying to force a seperation but Gomulka has the dominant position.
Ring trying to control the position but instead, Gomulka has worked for underhooks and has pushed Ring into the cage.

Gomulka fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Ring is trying to slow the pace down but that's a couple of times in a row that he's tried to get underhooks and Gomulka has denied him.

Ring escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gomulka on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Shane Ring seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ring thows a body shot but no joy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ring throws a nice looking combination but Gomulka bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Gomulka counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Gomulka counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ring keeping moving, preventing Gomulka from controlling successfully.
Ring is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gomulka is controlling him.

Ring wriggles free and stands up.
Gomulka takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Ring digs a good hook to Gomulka's body.
Shane Ring is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ring shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Gomulka eats them both and turns towards Ring to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Ring's corner calls for a 1-2. Ring obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ring is trying to stand back up but Gomulka is controlling him

Ring manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Gomulka has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gomulka there as he acknowledges the shot.

Gomulka has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Ring misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gomulka.
Gomulka slips a jab and a cross from Ring.
Ring moves into range and connects with a jab.
Ring misses with a body shot.
Shane Ring seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Ring throws a left and a right that both miss

so Gomulka counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Ring scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Ring throws a right and a left that both miss.

Ring with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Ring scores with a jab. Gomulka acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Ring feints a jab promting Gomulka to slip. Ring then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gomulka slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Ring lands with a right hand.
Gomulka shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ring defends it nicely.
Ring looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ring throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ring misses with the combination.
Ring connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Ring swinging wildly here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ring scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

And that's the end of the fight!
Shane Ring comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gomulka has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
