PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yannick Riesling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brutus Achilles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Yannick Riesling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brutus Achilles!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Achilles misses with a hook
and Riesling counters with a stiff right hand.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Achilles.
Achilles lands with a shot to the body.
Achilles tries for a takedown but Riesling circles away easily
and Achilles takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Achilles throws the left hand but Riesling avoids the punch easily.
Achilles tries to clinch but Riesling is having none of it.
Achilles cracks Riesling with an open hand slap.
Riesling misses with a body shot
and Achilles counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Achilles throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Achilles scores with the left hand. Riesling knows he should have avoided that one.
Riesling wants to clinch.

Achilles throws a left and a right that both miss

and Riesling counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Achilles's guard now.
Achilles wants to stand up but Riesling is controlling him.
Riesling trying to control the position from guard on top but Achilles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Achilles pushes Riesling off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Riesling shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Achilles is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Riesling is controlling him.

Rieslingis looking to pass into half guard but Achilles pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Achilles is in guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Achilles lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Achilles throwing strikes but missing.
Riesling is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Riesling has momentary wrist control but Achilles slips an elbow through the middle.

Achilles drops back, looking for a kneebar! Riesling looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Riesling looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Riesling!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Yannick Riesling will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Achilles is looking to clinch but Riesling is avoiding it.

Achilles shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Riesling is trying to get back to full guard.

Achilles is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Achilles is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Riesling tries to roll over but Achilles keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Riesling has hold of Achilles's hands but Achilles slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Achilles seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Riesling is looking for a sweep. Achilles is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Riesling moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Achilles connects with a couple of short punches.
Achilles keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Riesling's head.
Riesling lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Achilles!
Riesling won't let Achilles get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Riesling has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Achilles's face.

Achilles wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Achilles holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Riesling tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Riesling throwing strikes here but Achilles is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Riesling goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Achilles turns into him and now he's in Riesling's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Achilles trying to control but Riesling is working from the bottom.

Achilles stands and throws Riesling's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Riesling manages to get back to half guard.
Achilles wants to take a breather but Riesling is having none of it.
Riesling wants to get back to full guard.
Riesling gets back to full guard.

Achilles drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Riesling manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Achilles has Riesling in his guard.

Yannick Riesling overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Riesling throws and elbow that misses. Achilles uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Riesling's guard. Nice move by Achilles!
Riesling is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Achilles is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

and Achilles counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Nice straight punches there by Achilles. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Achilles.
Riesling slips a jab and a cross from Achilles.

Riesling doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

and Achilles counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Riesling!

Riesling is bucking up trying to escape but Achilles cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Achilles fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

BOOM! Achilles connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Oh Riesling is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Achilles is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Riesling to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Riesling shrugs it off.
Achilles wants to control the pace but Riesling is squirming around nicely.
Riesling seems to have got his legs back now.

Achilles is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Achilles!
