PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mario Bravo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Quaid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Quaid's choice of entrance music: Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mario Bravo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Douglas Quaid!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bravo falls off balance throwing a combination
and Quaid counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Quaid looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Bravo wants to get back to his feet but Quaid is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Bravo keeping full guard, as Quaid tries to pass.
Quaid slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Quaid won't allow Bravo to get back to his feet.
Quaid stands up over Bravo, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Quaid prevents Bravo from getting back to his feet.
Bravo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Quaid controls the pace.
Quaid trying to control the position from guard on top but Bravo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Quaid is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Bravo trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Quaid is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Quaid looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bravo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Bravo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bravo tries to get out of the position.

Quaid looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Quaid looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bravo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Quaid moves into full mount! Bravo won't be happy about that!

Quaid has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bravo tries to buck Quaid off but he can't manage it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Quaid jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Bravo manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Bravo pushes Quaid away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Quaid gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Quaid wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bravo keeps working.
Bravo is trying to buck Quaid off.

Bravo bucks up and tries to throw Quaid off but instead Quaid has got his back!
Bravo is trying to stand back up.
Quaid scores with punches from the back.
Quaid has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Bravo's body.
Quaid is punishing Bravo with some ground and pound.
Bravo is keeping busy.
Quaid is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Bravo up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Quaid has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Bravo's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bravo looks to clinch
and Quaid cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Quaid shoots in but no luck this time.
Bravo swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Quaid counters with a shoot takedown. Bravo fights it but they end up in guard.

Quaid prevents Bravo from getting back to his feet.
Quaid is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Quaid is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Quaid seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Quaid wants to control from the top but Bravo keeps moving.
Bravo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

so Quaid counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Bravo has momentary wrist control but Quaid slips an elbow through the middle.
Quaid lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Bravo can't keep his opponent in guard - Quaid advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Bravo is trying to stand back up but Quaid is controlling him

Quaid tries to keep at a distance but Bravo has taken the fight into the clinch.

Bravo is trying to push Quaid away but Quaid has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Quaid gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Bravo wants to stand and escape but Quaid is having none of it.
Quaid not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Douglas Quaid hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Quaid moves into range and connects with a jab.
Mario Bravo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bravo misses the body punch
and Quaid makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Quaid has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Quaid scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Bravo moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Bravo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Quaid counters with a stiff right hand.
Quaid lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Quaid closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Bravo is looking to get back to his feet here but Quaid is keeping cool and he's managed to take Bravo's back.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Quaid has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Bravo is defending well but eventually Quaid manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Bravo has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
