PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mr Ad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ima Wrestler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ad comes to the cage accompanied by Pow!. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wrestler gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Ad counters with a single leg into guard. Wrestler didn't expect that.
Ad won't allow Wrestler to sweep him here.
Ad seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Ad stopping the sweep attempt from Wrestler.
Ad passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Ad wants to control but Wrestler is keeping him busy.

The strikes coming from Ad are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ad wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wrestler, who protects the arm well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wrestler can do anything to dispel that myth.

Wrestler tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ad wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ground and pound from Ad seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Ad is looking to take a break and control but Wrestler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Ad thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

and Ad counters with a shoot takedown. Wrestler fights it but they end up in guard.
Ad stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wrestler swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wrestler avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Wrestler tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ad advances to half guard.
Ad looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Wrestler avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ad.

Wrestler tries to roll over but Ad keeps him under control.
Wrestler is refusing to be controlled, as Ad sits in half guard.
Ad moves nicely into side control.
Ad fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Wrestler really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ad. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wrestler tries to improve position but can't.
Ad controls the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wrestler stops Ad from passing to mount.
Wrestler tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ad scores with a couple of short elbows.
Sloppy strikes there by Ad.

Ad is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wrestler has escaped the position, nice work there.
Ad is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Wrestler will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ad wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wrestler keeps working.
Wrestler tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Wrestler gets back to half guard.
Ad throwing shots but Wrestler is blocking nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Wrestler is refusing to be controlled, as Ad sits in half guard.
Wrestler keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ad throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Ad decides to stand and escape the position.

Wrestler shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Ad tries to get to full guard but Wrestler has control of the leg.
Ad is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wrestler's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wrestler's back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Ad dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Wrestler shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ad defends it nicely.
Wrestler has his takedown stuffed

and Ad counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Wrestler!
Ad lands with some strikes.
Ad looking to control but Wrestler is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Wrestler wants to control but Ad is having none of it.
Ad with a couple of short strikes.

Ad wants to control the pace but Wrestler is squirming around nicely.
Wrestler is trying desperately to improve position.
Ad looking to ground and pound but Wrestler is blocking nicely.
Ima Wrestler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ad looking to finish with strikes here!
Ad looking to control but Wrestler is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The referee warns Wrestler that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Ad takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Wrestler is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Wrestler is squirming around, avoiding Ad's attempts to control the action.
Ad landing shots from mount.
Ad can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wrestler is looking to escape.
Ad cracks Wrestler with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wrestler is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ad putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Mr Ad is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Wrestler throwing hammer fists to the chest of Ad. What's that going to do exactly?
Ad controlling the pace for now.
Wrestler tries to reverse the position but Ad maintains control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mr Ad showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ad has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
