Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Willis Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Boykin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Willis Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randy Boykin!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Bruno Lombardi and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A chopping leg kick lands by Boykin.
Alves fails with an attempt to clinch.
Crunch! Boykin slams his shin into Alves's torso.

Alves clinches with his opponent.
Boykin goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Boykin struggles to land a body shot inside as Alves controls his hands.
Boykin tries to work over Alves's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Boykin tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Boykin is trying to maintain a safe position but Alves gets an underhook and turns Boykin into the cage.

Alves pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Boykin connects with a leg kick. Alves looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Alves tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Alves keeps the fight on the outside.
Alves tries to clinch but Boykin moves out of range.

Alves rushes Boykin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Alves wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Boykin has him pressed against the cage.
A short body shot lands from Boykin as the two fighters clinch.

Boykin has a couple of punches blocked by Alves.
Boykin trying to control the position but instead, Alves has worked for underhooks and has pushed Boykin into the cage.
Alves's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Boykin creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Alves is trying to push Boykin away but Boykin has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Boykin can't find room to land a body shot as Alves controls the action.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Boykin lands with a left to the head.
Alves has had enough of the clinch but Boykin keeps him there for the moment.
Boykin goes for a takedown in the clinch but Alves prevents it.
Boykin misses with a body punch.
Boykin looking to stall.
Boykin tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Alves's elbow.

The referee asks Alves politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Alves prefers to stall for the moment though.

Alves takes a little break here. Boykin wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Alves's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Willis Alves.
Alves tries to close the distance and clinch but Boykin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Alves throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Boykin was covering up waiting for the punch and Alves finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Alves has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Alves has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Boykin's face.

Alves sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Alves lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Alves for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Boykin pushes Alves back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Boykin changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Alves fights it off and pushes away nicely.
