Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gianfranco Zola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shinya Takata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zola comes to the cage accompanied by Balls to the Wall. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gianfranco Zola!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shinya Takata!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Thiago Cunha and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good work by Zola as he checks the leg kick.
Zola blocks a jab.
Takata misses with a body shot
and Zola counters with a stiff right hand.
Takata lands with a nice combination. Zola backs away looking to recover.
Takata lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Takata on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Takata fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Zola.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Zola moves away from the strike by Takata.
Takata scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Takata throws a hook to the side of Zola's head but Zola sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Zola throws a right and a left that Takata avoids nicely.
Takata sizes up Zola with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

A good leg kick by Takata.
Zola throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Zola on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Zola stuns Takata with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Zola, as that shot connected.
Shinya Takata seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Takata shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Zola changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Takata tries to avoid it but Zola manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Takata to the ground. Takata escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Zola throws a jab when Takata was well out of range.
Zola keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Zola steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Takata.
Zola ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Takata moves away.
Zola uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Takata.
Takata tests Zola's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Nice uppercut lands for Takata. That snapped Zola's head back.
Takata is looking to score with low kicks.
Takata shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Zola defends it nicely.
Takata keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Takata throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Takata, as that shot connected.

and Zola counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Zola sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Takata's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Takata is staying active underneath Zola, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Zola thows a huge punch but Takata dodges it nicely.
Zola not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Takata gets back to full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zola wants to pass the guard but Takata is keeping the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Zola accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Takata keeping moving, preventing Zola from controlling successfully.
Zola stands and throws Takata's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Takata manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Takata is trying to control but can't.
Zola wants to free his trapped foot but Takata is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Takata has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Zola is working away from the top position though.
Zola passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Takata!
Zola manages to capitalize on a mistake by Takata to take his back!
Zola tries to get the hooks in deep but Takata pushed the leg off.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Takata holding both Zola 's hands and preventing any damage.
Zola is hanging on to Takata's back as he tries to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Zola has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Takata has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Zola trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gianfranco Zola will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Takata swings for the body but Zola moves out of range.
Takata ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Zola catches Takata with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Takata fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Zola on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Takata connects with a right hand. Zola shakes it off.
Zola misses with a straight right.
Takata will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Zola fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Takata punishes Zola's body with a nice straight punch.
Takata throws a lazy uppercut

and Zola counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Takata pushes Zola off looking to stand but Zola dives back in and keeps control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Takata is looking to control Zola's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Takata avoid being mounted?
Zola wants to take a breather but Takata is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zola prevents Takata from improving his position.
Takata pushes Zola off looking to stand but Zola dives back in and keeps control.
Takata is staying active underneath Zola, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Takata is trying to get back to full guard.
Zola has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Zola wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Zola moves to the back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Zola has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Takata has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Zola is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Takata has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Zola working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Takata is doing well to defend. Zola seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Takata is forced to tap and this one is over!
