PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powell has chosen Stepping Razor as his entrance music. David Cross had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Powell!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Powell.
Powell throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Cross scores a takedown into full mount!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Powell can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cross controlling the pace for now.
Cross trying to control but Powell is having none of it.
Poor strikes thrown by Cross there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cross controls Powell momentarily but Powell frees himself.
Cross wants to sweep here but Powell controlling him for the moment.
Powell wants to pass the guard but Cross is keeping the position.

Cross looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cross is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Cross is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Cross is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Powell defends well.
Cross manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Cross can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Powell is looking to escape.
Cross throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Powell because Cross loaded up on that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that David Cross will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Powell throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cross sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Powell turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Powell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Cross. That's going to take a lot out of him.

David Cross seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Powell fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cross has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

That kick from Powell tenderised Cross's leg. Cross is trying to keep his angry face on.

Cross fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Powell manages to avoid it.

Cross shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Cross takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Joe Powell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cross has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
