PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shunsuke Yamamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyuzo Mifune (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Shunsuke Yamamoto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kyuzo Mifune!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mifune takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Yamamoto leaves Mifune with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mifune shoots in looking for a takedown but Yamamoto manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mifune's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Yamamoto uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.


It looks like Kyuzo Mifune has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Yamamoto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Yamamoto wants it to stay on the feet.
Shunsuke Yamamoto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kyuzo Mifune.
Mifune shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Yamamoto sprawls well. Yamamoto wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mifune gets slowly back to his feet.
Yamamoto swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Mifune counters with a takedown into side control.
Mifune looking to control but instead Yamamoto has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mifune tries to stand and escape but Yamamoto actually recovers to full guard.
Mifune looks gassed!

Yamamoto kicks Mifune off and gets to his feet.
Mifune dodges the punch combination from Yamamoto.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mifune avoids a punch combination nicely.
A combination from Yamamoto does no damage.
Mifune shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Yamamoto pinned against the cage. Yamamoto gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Yamamoto misses with a two punch combination.
Mifune fails with a takedown attempt.
Yamamoto bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mifune's head backwards.
Yamamoto throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Yamamoto misses with a double jab

so Mifune counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Yamamoto is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Yamamoto escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Yamamoto thuds his right hand into Mifune's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Yamamoto swats away the attempt to clinch by Mifune.
Yamamoto lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Shunsuke Yamamoto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Yamamoto misses with a combination

and Mifune counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Yamamoto!
Yamamoto wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mifune is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Yamamoto has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Yamamoto!

Mifune is looking for a triangle but Yamamoto pushes his legs off easily.

Yamamoto stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Yamamoto swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Yamamoto scores with a three punch combo!
Yamamoto throws a nice looking combination but Mifune bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Yamamoto scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yamamoto misses with a double jab

and Mifune counters with a takedown into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Yamamoto pushes Mifune away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mifune gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Mifune has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Yamamoto is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mifune yanks on the arm and Yamamoto is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mifune.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kyuzo Mifune!
