PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between tom Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frodo Baggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, tom Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frodo Baggins!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Kavanagh and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams has taken the fight to the clinch.
Williams slows down the pace here.
Williams swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Baggins looking for a takedown.
Baggins tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Baggins is looking to break free of the clinch but Williams has double underhooks.
Williams prevents the takedown attempt.
tom Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frodo Baggins.

Williams breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Baggins throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Williams darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Williams trying to control from half guard but Baggins is working away.
Still in half guard, Williams seems content to control.
Williams prevents Baggins from standing back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Williams is taking a breather. Baggins says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Williams decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
tom Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Williams is trying hard to land a takedown here. Baggins sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Baggins throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Williams.

Baggins in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Baggins is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Williams is looking to control Baggins's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Williams avoid being mounted?
Baggins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Williams. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Williams keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Baggins drops an elbow to the side of Williams's head.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Baggins wants to lay and pray for a moment but Williams keeps working.
Baggins is thwarting Williams's attempts to control the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Baggins connects with a nice short shot to Williams's temple.
Williams tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Williams is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Baggins scores with a couple of nice shots.

Baggins perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Williams on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Baggins is trying to control the action in half guard but Williams is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Williams wants to control but Baggins is keeping busy.
Baggins trying to pass the guard but Williams defending well.
Baggins scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Baggins winds up and cracks Williams with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

A close round but Frodo Baggins will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Baggins decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Williams's guard.

Baggins got a little sloppy there for a moment and Williams has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Baggins has managed to get both his arms back between Williams's legs - danger averted.

Baggins wants to get up but he can't break Williams's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Williams wants to get back to his feet but Baggins is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Baggins throws and elbow that misses. Williams uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Baggins's guard. Nice move by Williams!
Baggins pulls Williams in close to prevent any damage.

Williams gets to his feet - Baggins follows without any prompting.
Williams blocks a leg kick.

Williams closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Baggins wants to get back to full guard.

Still in half guard, Williams seems content to control.
Williams's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Williams escapes and gets back to his feet.
Baggins tries to bum rush Williams with a series of wild strikes but Williams uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Williams tries to close the distance and clinch up but Baggins swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Baggins counters with a two punch combo.

Williams has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Baggins is working away from the top position though.

Frodo Baggins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Williams moves in looking to clinch but Baggins pushes him off.

Baggins throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Williams swats away the attempt to clinch by Baggins.
Baggins lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Baggins shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Williams manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Williams on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Williams tries to get out of the position.

Williams pushes Baggins off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of tom Williams.
Williams tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Baggins is able to avoid easily.
Williams doesn't manage to clinch there - Baggins circles away.

Baggins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Williams swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Williams has control of Baggins's left arm, preventing Baggins from doing any damage.
Baggins must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Baggins throws a strike but Williams rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
tom Williams has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Williams has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Baggins is proving hard to escape from.

Frodo Baggins comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Baggins winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
