PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wandell Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffin has chosen The Original Techno Viking as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fred White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wandell Griffin!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
White throws a head kick but Griffin moves out of range.
White keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Griffin ducks under a wild hook from White.
Griffin moves into range and connects with a jab.
Griffin lands a leg kick that knocks White off balance momentarily.
Griffin works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

White shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
White trying to control from Griffin's half guard. Griffin has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Griffin sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

White moves into range and connects with a jab.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

White feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
White is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

White loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
White might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

White gets caught flat footed, as Griffin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Griffin throws a big right hand that misses.
White is trying to control the position but Griffin postures up.
Griffin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
White has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
White is trying to control the position from the bottom.
White wants to sweep here but Griffin controlling him for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Fred White just wasn't active enough.

Griffin moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from White.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
White is trying to get back to his feet.

Griffin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by White, who protects the arm well.
White trying to remain calm as Griffin controls from the top position.

Griffin cracks White with a big right hand but White just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Check out the look on Griffin's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
White is working to avoid the ground and pound but Griffin connects with a decent elbow.

White has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Griffin is working away from the top position though.

Griffin uses his free foot to push down on White's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for White.

Wandell Griffin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Griffin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as White sprawls well. White wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Griffin gets slowly back to his feet.

Griffin tries to score a power double leg takedown but White sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Griffin somewhat.
Fred White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wandell Griffin.

White ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Griffin moves away.
Fred White is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

White is looking to wear down Griffin with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Griffin will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Griffin has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Wandell Griffin's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

White tries to advance to mount but Griffin denies him.
Griffin is not content to let White control the position.
White postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
White in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Wandell Griffin's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Fred White!
