PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Smash Bash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mateusz Kowalewski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kowalewski has chosen Janusz Laskowski - Śnił mi się rodzinny dom as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Smash Bash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Mateusz Kowalewski!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bash is looking to clinch.
Kowalewski shoots in looking for a takedown. Bash tries to sprawl out of it but Kowalewski keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bash manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kowalewski's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Kowalewski duly obliges.
Bash wants to clinch.
Kowalewski keeps the fight on the outside.
Bash moves away from the strike by Kowalewski.
Kowalewski throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bash's waist but Bash gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kowalewski off to one side.
Bash tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kowalewski tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bash sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kowalewski somewhat.
Smash Bash has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mateusz Kowalewski.

Bash tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kowalewski paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Bash leaves Kowalewski with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kowalewski shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bash sprawls well. Bash wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kowalewski gets slowly back to his feet.

and Kowalewski counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Kowalewski has gone for a leg lock! Bash slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kowalewski's guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Smash Bash.
Kowalewski dives in and grabs Bash's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bash pushes down on Kowalewski's head and hops out.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bash looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Kowalewski closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kowalewski lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bash shoots for a double leg takedown but Kowalewski sprawls well. He's pushed Bash's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Smash Bash is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bash tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Kowalewski counters with a single leg into guard. Bash didn't expect that.

Kowalewski drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Bash dives on top into guard.

Kowalewski has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bash is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kowalewski.

Bash decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kowalewski to his feet.

Kowalewski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kowalewski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kowalewski is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bash is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bash has escaped and now he's on top!

Kowalewski had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bash defends it easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bash has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kowalewski is working away from the top position though.

Kowalewski is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bash sees it coming and defends easily.

Kowalewski is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bash doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kowalewski.

Bash has one foot on Kowalewski's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Smash Bash has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bash keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bash tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Kowalewski manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kowalewski dives in and grabs Bash's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bash pushes down on Kowalewski's head and hops out.
Smash Bash seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kowalewski shoots in looking for a takedown but Bash manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kowalewski's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kowalewski looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Well Kowalewski has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
