PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scotty McGruber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Dillan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGruber kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Chevelle - Shameful Metaphors. Dillan has chosen Kick Ass as his entrance music. McGruber has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dillan lands a nice looking body shot.
McGruber lands a nice shot to the body.
The fighters circling - McGruber throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
McGruber swats away the attempt to clinch by Dillan.

McGruber on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as McGruber checks a leg kick.
McGruber throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dillan.
No joy there for McGruber, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dillan clobbers McGruber with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
McGruber misses with a hook. Dillan ducked under it nicely.
McGruber looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

McGruber is breathing heavily.
McGruber throws a looping overhand right but Dillan ducks down to avoid it.
Dillan lands a straight punch to the body, keeping McGruber at a distance.

Dillan rushes McGruber and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Dillan thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Dillan decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
McGruber throws a hook to the side of Dillan's head but Dillan sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Dillan lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Dillan moves in looking to clinch but McGruber pushes him off.

Dillan throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. McGruber tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Dillan is in McGruber's guard.

Dillan wants to lay and pray for a moment but McGruber keeps working.
Dillan seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

McGruber escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dillan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Dillan wants to stand but McGruber is controlling his posture from full guard.

Dillan postures up and lands a big shot to McGruber's brow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dillan fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Dillan connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
McGruber throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Dillan counters with a nice body shot.
McGruber moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Dillan scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. McGruber doesn't seem bothered though.

Dillan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. McGruber manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Dillan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of McGruber's head.

Dillan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics McGruber uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGruber looking to sit in guard and control but Dillan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Dillan stands and steps away. McGruber gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Dillan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McGruber moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

McGruber avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Dillan counters by clinching up.
McGruber jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dillan walks away with a smile on his face. McGruber gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Dillan throws a combination. McGruber tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dillan wants to control from the top but McGruber keeps moving.
McGruber has momentary wrist control but Dillan slips an elbow through the middle.

Dillan would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

McGruber has momentary wrist control but Dillan slips an elbow through the middle.

Dillan thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dillan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Dillan seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dillan connects with a nice short shot to McGruber's temple.

Dillan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Dillan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dillan is working to tighten is grip on McGruber's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. McGruber has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Dillan is really squeezing tight and eventually McGruber passes out! Dillan breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
