PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Adams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donald Akers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Adams might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Kronik. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Adams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Donald Akers!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Adams scores with a takedown into Akers's guard.
Adams is pushing down on Akers's leg trying to pass to half guard. Akers is fighting to maintain full guard but Adams has managed to sneak the leg through.
Adams is pressing down on Akers's thigh, looking to free his foot. Akers is holding on for now.
Akers is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Adams wants to pass the guard but Akers is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Adams decides to stand and escape the position.

Adams gets the takedown into side control.

Adams controls the position from side control.
Adams seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Akers for as long as he can get away with.
Akers struggling a bit here.

Adams wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Akers, who protects the arm well.
Akers tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Adams wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Akers seems a little lost for a moment, as Adams dominates the positioning.

Adams stands up.
Akers looks gassed!

Adams moves into the clinch successfully.
Adams is trying to break the clinch but Akers is controlling him.
Adams digs a right hand into Akers's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Akers's gas tank.
Akers scores a nice knee to the body.
Adams misses with a knee strike.
Adams tries for a takedown. No joy.
Akers prevents a takedown attempt there.

Adams gets control of Akers's arms and successfully pulls guard. Adams will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Adams pulls Akers in close to his closed guard and prevents Akers from doing any damage or advancing position.
Adams is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Adams thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Adams will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Adams looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Akers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Adams. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Adams pushes Akers off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Adams instigates a clinch.
Akers utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Akers pulls guard successfully.
Akers working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Adams.
Adams not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akers manages to break the clinch.
A head kick misses from Adams.

Adams shoots in and bounces Akers off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Donald Akers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Adams tries for a takedown but Akers sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Adams scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.


It looks like Donald Akers has been cut.
Akers is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Adams postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Akers to stand up.

Adams is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Akers's half guard.
Adams is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Akers is defending against the submission attempts here by Adams.
Adams works his foot free and advances to mount.

Adams shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Akers napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Adams drops Akers with a beautiful combination! Akers stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Adams is looking for the KO!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Adams tried to score with a low kick but Akers checks it.

Adams bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Adams is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Akers can do to turn this around?

Adams stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Adams shoots for a double leg takedown but Akers sprawls well. He's pushed Adams's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Adams. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Adams has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Adams changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Akers looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Adams has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Akers takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Akers gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
This has been an exciting period of action!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Adams cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Donald Akers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Brian Adams is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Adams has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Akers defend it? Adams steps over the head and cranks it - Akers is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Adams!
