PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Olio Vida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Olio Vida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ben Foster!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Vida misses the target.
Vida fails with the takedown.
Vida looks to land a left hand but Foster moved out of range nicely.
Vida tries for a takedown but Foster sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Foster misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Foster misses with a wild combination.
Vida shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Foster as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Olio Vida. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sloppy strikes from Foster. Those never looked like landing.
Foster misses with a few strikes there.
Foster rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Vida moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Foster is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Vida tries to close the distance and clinch up but Foster swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Vida closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vida lands in his opponent's guard.
Foster working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Vida.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Vida trying to control but Foster is working from the bottom.
Vida postures up in Foster's guard and throws a big left but Foster blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Foster utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Vida could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Vida with a flurry of punches that miss.
Vida in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Vida wants to control from the top but Foster keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vida working some strikes from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vida is looking to work some ground and pound but Foster has wrist control.
Foster looks gassed!
Vida postures up in Foster's guard and throws a big left but Foster blocks it.
Vida in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Vida prevents Foster from getting back to his feet.
Foster really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vida. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vida throwing strikes from guard but Foster blocks nicely.
Vida trying to control the position from guard on top but Foster is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Vida passes easily into side control. Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Foster avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Vida.

Vida stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Vida fails to land the takedown.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Foster takes one to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Olio Vida dominated that round.
That's time! Vida's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Vida shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Foster sprawls well. Foster wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vida gets slowly back to his feet.

Vida gets a takedown into half guard.
Foster avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Vida.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vida thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Foster's head.
Vida is trying to control. Foster wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Foster is breathing heavily.
Vida is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Foster is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Vida stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Vida shoots in for a double leg but Foster sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Vida shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Vida thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Foster avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Vida.
Vida wants to control but Foster is keeping him busy.

Foster kicks Vida off and gets back to his feet.
Some wild striking there from Foster.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vida drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Vida wants to control from the top but Foster keeps moving.
Vida throws a big right hand that misses.
Vida has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vida stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Foster swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Vida stands up and waves to Foster to follow him.
Foster misses with the combination.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vida shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Foster but Foster pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Olio Vida dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Foster lands with a nice combination. Vida backs away looking to recover.
Foster shoots in but no luck this time.
Vida gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Foster counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Foster wants to get up but he can't break Vida's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Foster postures up.
Foster wants to stand but Vida is controlling his posture from full guard.
Olio Vida is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Vida might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Vida gets the takedown into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Foster is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Foster being controlled for a moment.
Vida lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Foster down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Foster managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Vida.
Vida postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Vida tries to advance to mount but Foster denies him.
Foster is pushing Vida's head away, looking to escape. Vida manages to hold on to the position though.
Vida advances nicely into full mount.
Foster trying desperately to get to his feet.
Ben Foster has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
Ben Foster comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Vida has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
