Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Venkman! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bobby Dee! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Venkman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Dee closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Venkman regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Dee. Dee cracks Venkman with a solid left hand. Venkman working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Dee. Dee throws a big right hand that misses. Dee with a flurry of punches that miss. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dee accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Venkman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Dee stopping the sweep attempt from Venkman. Venkman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dee's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dee is striking but Venkman is not phased and passes to half guard. Dee is trying to get back to full guard. Dee is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Dee is desperately trying to improve his position but Venkman has a good base and remains in mount. Dee looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Venkman tightening his grip on Dee, looking for the choke. Dee is in bad spot here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Venkman is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Dee is defending well though. Venkman let's go of the attempt for now. Venkman is breathing heavily. Venkman has the hooks in. Dee is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Dee is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Dee holding both Venkman 's hands and preventing any damage. Venkman is hanging on to Dee's back as he tries to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dee breaks Venkman's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Venkman had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Dee is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Venkman Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Dee's back instead. Dee turns into Venkman and is now in his guard.
Venkman manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Venkman works his way to his opponent's back.
Venkman is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Dee with him. Dee is trying to defend but Venkman has an arm under the chin now! Dee grimaces and is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Peter Venkman! Peter Venkman retains his middleweight title!
