PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kenny McGrimshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amir Mahmoud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGrimshaw comes to the cage accompanied by Pharoahe Monch - Simon Says. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kenny McGrimshaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Amir Mahmoud!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Mahmoud.
Mahmoud closes the distance and clinches up with McGrimshaw, looking for a takedown. Mahmoud pushes McGrimshaw against the cage but McGrimshaw circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mahmoud is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Mahmoud throws a hook to the side of McGrimshaw's head but McGrimshaw sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A nice inside leg kick there by McGrimshaw. That's going to slow Mahmoud down.

Mahmoud rushes McGrimshaw and presses him up against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Mahmoud scores with a nice short uppercut.

Mahmoud escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mahmoud with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling McGrimshaw to score with a decent uppercut.
The fighters circling - McGrimshaw throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
McGrimshaw tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mahmoud swats him away and circles back towards the center.

McGrimshaw gets the takedown into side control.

McGrimshaw has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Mahmoud pushes McGrimshaw up against the cage in a clinch.

Mahmoud pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
McGrimshaw tries to clinch but Mahmoud is having none of it.
Mahmoud wants to clinch.
McGrimshaw fails to land the takedown.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mahmoud shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McGrimshaw as he avoids it easily.
Mahmoud has his takedown stuffed
and McGrimshaw connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kenny McGrimshaw has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Amir Mahmoud.
Mahmoud looks gassed!

McGrimshaw changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mahmoud looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mahmoud really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McGrimshaw. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mahmoud is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McGrimshaw asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Mahmoud gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
A nice elbow there by McGrimshaw.
McGrimshaw takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Mahmoud is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
McGrimshaw trying to control but Mahmoud is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McGrimshaw with the ground and pound from mount.

McGrimshaw has control of Mahmoud's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Mahmoud regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mahmoud tries to improve his position but McGrimshaw has taken his back! McGrimshaw has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Mahmoud tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! McGrimshaw pushes Mahmoud away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kenny McGrimshaw!
