Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Geoffrey Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith tries to clinch up.
Silva throws a series of punches but Smith moves out of range.

Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Silva paws at him with a jab and circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Smith enables Silva to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Smith manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smith is on top in guard.
Silva wants to get back to his feet but Smith is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Geoffrey Smith hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Silva shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Silva showed some decent athleticism there.
Smith wants to control the action here but instead Silva manages to pass to full mount!
Smith tries to lock up and control but Silva gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Smith tries to clinch but Silva moves out of range.

Silva throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Smith was covering up waiting for the punch and Silva finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Smith wants to sweep here but Silva controlling him for the moment.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.
Silva postures up in Smith's guard and throws a big left but Smith blocks it.
Smith manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Silva manages to get himself to full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Silva scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Smith wants to sweep but no luck.

Silva wants to get up but he can't break Smith's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Geoffrey Smith was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.
Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Smith sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Silva fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Silva persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Smith manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Smith is breathing heavily.
Silva stalks Smith and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Smith's face. Smith staggers backwards, shaken.
Smith tries to clinch up but Silva circles away and keeps his distance.
Silva closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Jake Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Smith wants to clinch.
Silva stalks Smith and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Smith's face. Smith staggers backwards, shaken.

Smith is rocked!
Silva fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Smith is still on wobbly legs! Can Silva finish him?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Silva has cracked Smith with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Silva lands another huge swinging hook and Smith tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Smith, before Silva can land any more shots!
