PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodney Bruisester (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Murphy comes to the cage accompanied by Dirty Jer-Z. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rodney Bruisester!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Roberts and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bruisester drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bruisester advances to half guard.

Murphy is defending against the submission attempts here by Bruisester.

Bruisester is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Murphy is just riding it out for now. Bruisester eventually gives up the hold.
Bruisester throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Bruisester wants to work for an arm triangle but Murphy is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Bruisester has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Murphy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Murphy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bruisester is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Murphy is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Murphy's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Murphy doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Bruisester holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Murphy is trying to trip Bruisester. He has hold of a leg but Bruisester is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Murphy persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Bruisester is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Bruisester manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Murphy pulls Bruisester in close to his closed guard and prevents Bruisester from doing any damage or advancing position.
Bruisester stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Murphy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Murphy has Bruisester pulled in close to control his posture.

Bruisester works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Bruisester is trying to control the action in half guard but Murphy is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bruisester tries to pass to full mount but Murphy defends it.
Murphy is trying to maintain the position but Bruisester is very close to passing his half guard.

Bruisester seems to be looking for submissions.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Murphy feints and as Bruisester raises his hands in defense, Murphy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Bruisester has control of Murphy's left arm, preventing Murphy from doing any damage.

Murphy closes the distance but Bruisester moves to the side

and Bruisester counters with a takedown into side control.
Murphy pushes Bruisester away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Bruisester gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Bruisester working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Bruisester throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Murphy is trying to strike from the bottom but Bruisester has passed into full mount.
Murphy is wriggling around trying to escape.

Bruisester goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Murphy turns into him and now he's in Bruisester's guard.
Bruisester takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Murphy throws a big right hand that misses.
Murphy landing with the ground and pound.

Bruisester has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Murphy is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bruisester.

Murphy is looking to take a break and control but Bruisester is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rodney Bruisester has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bruisester tries to improve position but can't.
Bruisester is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Murphy works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Murphy lands some shots froms side control.
Murphy wants to control but Bruisester is keeping him busy.
Bruisester has control of an arm but Murphy manages to advance to Murphy's back!

Bruisester tries to break free.
Murphy is landing with strikes from the back.
Murphy is hanging on to Bruisester's back as he tries to escape.
Bruisester turns into Murphy and is now in his guard.

Bruisester is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Bruisester drops back looking for a leg! Murphy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Murphy manages to kick Bruisester off! Bruisester jumps back into Murphy's guard.
Bruisester slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bruisester passes Murphy's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Bruisester looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bruisester is stalling here. Murphy is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Bruisester seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Murphy has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Rodney Bruisester.
I think Bruisester has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
