Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luiz Fernando (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edinson Meireles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Edinson Meireles was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meireles shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Meireles content to stall in guard here.
Fernando throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Meireles cracks Fernando with a solid left hand.
Meireles gets to his feet. Fernando looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fernando tries to sprawl but Meireles drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Fernando is looking to improve his position.
Meireles missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Meireles throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Meireles decides to return to a standing position.

Meireles cracks Fernando with an open hand slap.
Meireles lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Meireles.
Meireles circles away from the clinch attempt.
Fernando tries to clinch there but Meireles circles away.
Meireles closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Meireles is trying to break free.
Fernando misses with a hook from the clinch.

Fernando jumps guard but Meireles stands there with Fernando around his waist. Fernando gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Fernando changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Meireles fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Meireles throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Fernando tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Meireles is in Fernando's guard.
Meireles stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fernando swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Meireles lands a couple of elbows.
Meireles drops back looking for a leg! Fernando is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fernando manages to kick Meireles off! Meireles jumps back into Fernando's guard.
Meireles looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fernando is working an open guard so Meireles takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Fernando gets a clinch.
Fernando wants to get back to striking at distance but Meireles won't allow it.
Meireles jumps guard and drags Fernando to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Meireles pulls Fernando in close to prevent any damage.
Meireles keeping full guard, as Fernando tries to pass.
Fernando is breathing heavily.
Meireles wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Meireles tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Meireles has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Meireles misses with a double jab.
Meireles closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Fernando to the mat! Fernando manages to get full guard.
Meireles not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Meireles stands and throws Fernando's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Meireles counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Fernando's guard now.
Meireles is stalling in the full guard.
Fernando is looking to stand up but Meireles isn't so interested in that idea.
Meireles controls from within his opponent's guard.
Fernando is looking for a triangle here but Meireles uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Meireles looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Meireles is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Fernando is trying to escape and Meireles transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Fernando is forced to tap! Nice work there by Meireles! Very nice indeed!
