PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yedo Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buster Cherry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kim comes to the cage accompanied by "We Be Clubbin (Eye of the Tiger Remix)" by Ice Cube. Cherry is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Busters Back. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yedo Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Buster Cherry!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The fighters circling - Kim throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Kim takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Cherry lands a lovely overhand right.
Cherry waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kim.
Kim does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Kim fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Cherry is out of range.

Kim really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kim dodges the punch combination from Cherry.
Cherry looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Kim throws a leg kick but Cherry sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Kim dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Cherry misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cherry fails with a takedown attempt.
Cherry scores with a jab. Kim acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kim thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Cherry if he has to take too many more of those.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kim throws a low kick but it's checked well by Cherry.

and Kim finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Kim lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Cherry backs up against the cage.
Kim lands a nice leg kick that just misses Cherry's sensitive parts.
Kim is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Kim throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Kim throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cherry.
Kim misses with an attempted mid kick.

and Kim counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Cherry stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kim.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cherry on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Kim. Kim obviously looking to wear him down.

Kim scores with a kick to the body.
Cherry takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Cherry throws a jab but it's blocked by Kim.
The crowd cheers as Kim lands an impressive looking overhand right. Cherry doesn't seem phased though.
Kim throws a leg kick but Cherry sees it coming and moves out of range.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A chopping leg kick lands by Kim.
Cherry throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kim sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Cherry closes the distance looking to clinch
and Kim makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yedo Kim dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Kim fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cherry.

and Cherry counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Cherry swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Kim counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Kim looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kim connects with an inside leg kick.
Cherry is breathing heavily.
Kim feints and then cracks Cherry's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Cherry down.
Kim is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cherry can do to turn this around?

Kim throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Kim jabs at Cherry's body.
Kim dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Cherry. That did some damage!
Both fighters circling a little - Kim finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cherry has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Cherry there as he acknowledges the shot.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Kim, right into the meat.
Kim throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Kim is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

and Kim counters with a nice uppercut.
A low kick from Kim is predictable there
enabling Cherry to counter with a crisp jab.
Kim tries a head kick but it misses.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kim.
Cherry pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

A solid leg kick lands there for Kim.
Kim bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Cherry misses with a body punch
letting Kim counter with a right hand.
Cherry throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cherry throws the left hand but Kim avoids the punch easily.
Buster Cherry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cherry shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kim manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kim is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kim wants to stand up but Cherry is controlling him.

Cherry is looking to work some ground and pound but Kim has wrist control.
Kim will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kim is trying to keep Cherry in close.
Cherry postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kim is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cherry's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kim utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kim can't keep his opponent in guard - Cherry advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cherry throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yedo Kim dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Kim moves away from the strike by Cherry.
Cherry changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Cherry checks the leg kick nicely there.
Kim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kim has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cherry finds it's way round the side to connect with Kim's head.
Cherry looks to land a combination but Kim avoids it well.
Kim misses with a wild body shot.
Cherry tries to clinch
and Kim counters with a nice kick to the body.
Kim tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kim keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Kim uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cherry.
Cherry moves out of range of the leg kick from Kim.
Cherry misses with a looping right.
Cherry's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Kim bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Kim swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Kim is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cherry.
Yedo Kim is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cherry lands a really nice looking cross but Kim seems unphased.

Cherry avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Cherry throws an overhand right that lands on Kim's shoulder, as Kim tries to avoid the shot.
Cherry throws a lazy right hand but Kim sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cherry connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Cherry is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kim.
Kim ducks right into an uppercut from Cherry.
Kim uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cherry.
Kim moves away from the strike by Cherry.
Kim lands a high kick!

Cherry closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cherry is nestled in close to Kim, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kim is not content to let Cherry control the position.
Cherry is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Cherry prevents Kim from standing back up.
Kim is pressing down on Cherry's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Buster Cherry has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kim is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Cherry passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Cherry scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Kim to see if he's OK.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kim is looking to regain half guard here but Cherry keeps moving and retains side control.
Cherry creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Buster Cherry comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kim has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
