The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson misses with an uppercut

and Max decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard.
Max looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Johnson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Max can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Johnson has momentary wrist control but Max slips an elbow through the middle.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Max is staying tight to Johnson's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Johnson is trying to control Max's posture but Max avoids it.

Max lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Johnson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson is squirming around, avoiding Max's attempts to control the action.
Johnson is wriggling around trying to escape.

and Max counters with an outside leg kick.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Max. Johnson shrugs it off though.
Johnson has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Max.
Max connects with a body shot.

Johnson walks into a stiff left hand from Max.
Max throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Johnson.

It looks like Matty Johnson has been cut.
Max scores with a decent looking hook.

Whack! Max lands a heavy head kick that drops Johnson. The ref tackles Max to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Johnson was done.
