PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Guto Culpado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Carlos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlos tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Culpado manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Culpado just misses with a punch to the body.
Culpado fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Carlos gets caught flat footed, as Culpado shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Culpado seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Carlos for as long as he can get away with.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Carlos scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Culpado's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Carlos connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Culpado scrambles back to his feet.
Culpado is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Juan Carlos is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Culpado scores with a sloppy right hand. Carlos should have avoided that one.
Carlos lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Carlos slaps away a takedown attempt from Culpado, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Culpado is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carlos knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Culpado remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Culpado fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Carlos sprawls well initially but Culpado persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Carlos has a hand on Culpado's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Culpado takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Carlos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Culpado. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Culpado cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Carlos is in a horrible position here. Culpado smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Culpado maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Carlos could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Culpado has cracked it and Carlos is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Culpado!
