PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Biggs Wafers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wafers has chosen PrideFC as his entrance music. The key to victory for Anthony Jackson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Biggs Wafers!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Eddie Farnsworth and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wafers shoots in looking for a takedown but Jackson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wafers's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Wafers has a takedown stuffed.
Wafers throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jackson's waist but Jackson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wafers off to one side.
Anthony Jackson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Biggs Wafers.
Jackson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

and Wafers counters by moving into the clinch.
Jackson tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Jackson is pressed up against the cage. Wafers has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jackson down to the mat. Jackson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Jackson is looking to clinch but Wafers is avoiding it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jackson pushes Wafers off looking to stand but Wafers dives back in and keeps control.

Wafers jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jackson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jackson and Wafers has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Wafers advances to mount.
Wafers can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jackson is looking to escape.

Wafers goes for an armbar but Jackson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Jackson.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Wafers is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jackson defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Anthony Jackson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Wafers decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Wafers works his foot free and advances to mount.
Jackson really wants to buck Wafers off and get back to his feet.
Wafers trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Jackson is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Wafers goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Jackson is on top in guard.

Jackson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Wafers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jackson's guard.
Jackson wants to stand but Wafers is controlling the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Wafers moves into full mount! Jackson won't be happy about that!

Wafers is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jackson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jackson shrugs it off.

Biggs Wafers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Jackson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Wafers shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jackson as he avoids it easily.
Anthony Jackson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jackson works over Wafers's head and body with a nice combination.

Wafers misses with a takedown attempt - Jackson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Wafers will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Wafers shoots in looking for a takedown. Jackson tries to sprawl out of it but Wafers keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jackson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Wafers tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jackson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wafers somewhat.

Wafers dives in and grabs Jackson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jackson pushes down on Wafers's head and hops out.

Jackson cracks Wafers with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Jackson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Jackson wants to break the clinch but can't.
Wafers has Jackson pressed against the cage, preventing Jackson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
A head punch on the inside from Jackson fails to land.
Jackson throws a punch but it's blocked by Wafers.

Wafers tightens his grip and picks Jackson up, before dumping him to the ground. Jackson manages to land in guard.
Wafers prevents Jackson from getting back to his feet.
Wafers trying to control the position from guard on top but Jackson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wafers pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jackson is keeping the position for now.
Wafers slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Wafers thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Jackson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Wafers stands and throws Jackson's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jackson is not content to let Wafers control the position.
Wafers might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jackson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Jackson wants to get back to his feet but Wafers drags him back down.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Wafers wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jackson, who protects the arm well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anthony Jackson showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Jackson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
