The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strauss is trying hard to land a takedown here. Daniels sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Daniels doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Strauss counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Daniels tries to roll over but Strauss keeps him under control.

Strauss is working for a submission of some sort.
Daniels wants to sweep but Strauss has passed to side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daniels is trying to improve his position.
Strauss lands a nice forearm strike.
Daniels is looking to regain half guard here but Strauss keeps moving and retains side control.
Strauss has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Strauss wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Daniels, who protects the arm well.

Strauss tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Strauss has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Strauss in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Daniels tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Strauss wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daniels gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Strauss is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Strauss is keen to just control but Daniels is a slippery customer.
