Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Miami Funk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luke Upton!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funk throws a head kick that misses.
Nice uppercut there from Upton.
Upton shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Upton throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Funk tries for a takedown but Upton circles away easily
and Upton counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Upton throws a leg kick but Funk moved away.
Funk fails with the takedown.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Funk is defended easily by Upton.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miami Funk. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Upton dips to his left and cracks Funk with an uppercut!

Upton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Funk, pushing him back against the cage.
Funk tries to circle away but Upton has him pinned against the cage.
Upton gets underhooks to prevent Funk's takedown attempt.
Upton with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Funk jumps guard but Upton stands there with Funk around his waist. Funk gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Upton scores with a nice hook to the head.

Upton breaks from the clinch.

Upton moves into the clinch.
Funk is trying to drag Upton to the mat but Upton just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Upton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Upton circles away from the clinch attempt.
Upton sizes up Funk with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Upton gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Funk to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Upton is looking for a triangle here but Funk uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Upton is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Upton trying to control but Funk postures up.
Upton gets back to full guard.

Upton looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Funk passes into side control.
Funk passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Upton!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Upton is trying to escape the mount.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Upton tries to hold on but Funk pushes him away.
Upton tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Upton wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

Upton showing good submission defense here.
Funk is trying to stick to Upton's back but Upton is turning into Funk. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Funk's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Upton.
Upton with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Upton in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Funk is breathing heavily.
Upton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Funk is keeping the position for now.
Funk is trying to control the position but Upton postures up.
Upton trying to control the position from guard on top but Funk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Upton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Upton drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Upton jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Funk avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luke Upton dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Upton scores with a punch to the head.
Funk closes the distance and clinches up with Upton, looking for a takedown. Funk pushes Upton against the cage but Upton circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Upton connects with a nice looking jab.
Nice sprawl there from Upton as Funk shoots in.
Luke Upton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A punch combination from Upton misses.
Upton lands a jab to the head.
Upton misses with a takedown

and Funk counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Upton looking for a guillotine here but Funk defends easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Funk is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Upton is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Upton has escaped and now he's on top!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Upton is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Upton drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Funk manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Upton has Funk in his guard.

Upton pushes a forearm under Funk's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Funk is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Luke Upton!
