Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Paighn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cory Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steel has chosen Immortal Technique-Point of no return as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Paighn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cory Steel!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paighn throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Steel.


It looks like Cory Steel has been cut.
Paighn takes a jab right on the kisser.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Paighn avoids a punch combination nicely.
Steel staying out of range there.
A punch lands to the side of Paighn 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Paighn scores with a kick to the midsection.
Paighn throws a wild body kick that Steel sees coming a mile off.

Steel drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Steel connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Paighn some visible discomfort.
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Steel has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Paighn!
Paighn on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Paighn tries to get out of the position.

Steel is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Paighn has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Steel thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Steel swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Paighn is now in Steel's guard. A big mistake from Steel there, giving up the dominant position!

Paighn decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Paighn leaves Steel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Steel shoots for a double leg takedown but Paighn sprawls well. He's pushed Steel's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Steel shoots in looking for a takedown. Paighn tries to sprawl out of it but Steel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Paighn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Steel shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Paighn is trying to defend but Steel finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Steel fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Paighn manages to avoid it.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Steel crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Paighn - the referee stops the clock and Steel gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Paighn. Steel manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Paighn thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Steel if he has to take too many more of those.
