PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jiri Ahokas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Song Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ahokas comes to the cage accompanied by Shoot to Thrill by AC/DC. Song Lee told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jiri Ahokas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Song Lee!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee lands a lovely overhand right.
Lee checks the leg kick nicely there.
Ahokas connects with a leg kick. Lee looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Ahokas throws a low kick but Lee avoids it.
A left lands for Lee.
Lee stuns Ahokas with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Ahokas cracks Lee with a right hand to the side of the head.
Ahokas on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Lee. Lee obviously looking to wear him down.
A head kick misses from Ahokas.
Ahokas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ahokas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ahokas wants it to stay on the feet.

Lee drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Lee postures up in Ahokas's guard and throws a big left but Ahokas blocks it.
Lee stands up over Ahokas, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Ahokas wants to sweep but no luck.

Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Ahokas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Lee darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Lee thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ahokas keeps working.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lee lands a nice short elbow.
Ahokas tries to get to full guard but Lee has control of the leg.
Ahokas won't allow Lee to pass to mount.

Lee prevents Ahokas from improving his position.
Lee has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Lee slips a nice elbow through Ahokas's hands, connecting with Ahokas's forehead.
Ahokas wants to improve his position but Lee is controlling well.
Ahokas has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lee is working away from the top position though.

Song Lee dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ahokas shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Ahokas is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and Lee counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lee loads up on a big right hand but Ahokas slips the punch.
Ahokas throws a head kick that misses.
Lee misses with a series of wild punches.

Both fighters circling a little - Ahokas finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Ahokas fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Lee is out of range.
Jiri Ahokas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ahokas lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Lee moves away from the strike by Ahokas.
Ahokas throws a looping overhand right but Lee ducks down to avoid it.
Ahokas lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Lee avoids the body shot from Ahokas.
Ahokas uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Lee.

Ahokas pivots, looking for a leg kick but Lee is out of range and Ahokas settles back down.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Ahokas.
Good leg kick by Ahokas there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Ahokas tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Lee manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ahokas moves in looking to clinch but Lee pushes him off.
Lee misses with a body shot.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Lee crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Ahokas - the referee stops the clock and Lee gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Ahokas. Lee manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Ahokas tries to score with a low kick but Lee moves his leg out of the way.
Ahokas connects with a single shot there.
Ahokas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lee throws the left hand but Ahokas avoids the punch easily.

Lee throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ahokas sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Lee circles away from the clinch attempt.

Ahokas turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Ahokas misses the shot to the body.
Lee avoids the head kick by Ahokas.

Ahokas walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Lee checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Lee looks up at the clock and then as Ahokas takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Lee smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Ahokas is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Lee's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Ahokas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jiri Ahokas will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Ahokas seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Ahokas dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Lee. That did some damage!

Lee's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Ahokas catches Lee with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Ahokas fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Lee has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jiri Ahokas showed his dominance in that final round.
