PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Nablor Meek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and No Name (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nablor Meek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, No Name!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meek shoots in but Name avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Meek is defended easily by Name.

Meek gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Name to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Meek on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Meek tries to get out of the position.
Meek can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Name controls the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Name won't allow Meek to get back to his feet.
Name trying to control the position from guard on top but Meek is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Meek will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Meek is trying to keep Name in close.
Name looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Meek fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Name is out of range.
Meek misses with a takedown

and Name counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Meek's guard now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nablor Meek. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Name stays in close to Meek's body and controls the position.
Meek wants to sweep here but Name controlling him for the moment.
Meek preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Name stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Meek swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Meek wants to sweep here but Name controlling him for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by No Name.
Name tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Meek was well out of range. Poor timing from Name.

Name darts in and clinches Meek up against the cage.
Meek tries a body shot but Name blocks it.
Name tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Meek's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Name closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Meek wants to get back to full guard but Name has mounted him!
Meek is breathing heavily.
Meek blocking the ground and pound.
Name content just to control the position here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Name trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Name misses with a head shot.
Name throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Meek is in all sorts of trouble here.

Name stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Name throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Meek was covering up waiting for the punch and Name finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Name slips nicely into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Name keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Meek wants to control but Name is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Name thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Meek knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Name on the ground.
Name controlling the action here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. No Name wasn't active enough on the ground.
Meek gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Name counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Name.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

No Name dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Name shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Meek's guard.

Name decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Name with a poor takedown

and Meek holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Name is pressed up against the cage. Meek has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Name down to the mat. Name avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Name dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Name scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee asks Name politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Name prefers to stall for the moment though.

Name looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Name should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Meek is trying to control Name's posture but Name avoids it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Name wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Meek, who protects the arm well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Meek is letting Name control him for a moment.

Name stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Meek doesn't manage to clinch there - Name circles away.

Name shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Meek's guard.
Name slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Meek really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Name stands and steps away. Meek gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Name content just to control the position here.
No Name has got the better of the ground game so far.

Name looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Name sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Name throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Name is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Name stalks Meek and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Meek's face. Meek staggers backwards, shaken.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Name drives through with a takedown into guard.
Name postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Name sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Meek's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

No Name showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Name fails in his attempt to clinch.

Meek gets a clinch.
Name jumps guard but Meek stands there with Name around his waist. Name gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Meek has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Name is trying to keep an underhook but Meek manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Meek is looking to advance position but Name won't allow it.
Name is trying to maintain the position but Meek is very close to passing his half guard.
Name gets full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Name working for a triangle but Meek defends it easily.
Name has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Meek trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Name manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Name throwing strikes but missing.
Meek keeping moving, preventing Name from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Name stands and steps away. Meek gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Name drives through with a takedown into guard.
Meek looking for a sweep. Not yet Meek, not yet.
Name stays in close to Meek's body and controls the position.

Name stands up from Meek's guard - Name perhaps looking for a knockout.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Name has eaten all the pies!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Name tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Name lands with a straight right. Meek didn't see that one coming.

Name closes the distance and clinches.
Name tries to score a body lock takedown but Meek shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Name tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Meek smiles and moves away.
Nablor Meek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of No Name.

Name drives through with a takedown into guard.
Name's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Name passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Name seems content to control.
Name is thwarting Meek's attempts to control the position.
Name not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Name looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Name thows a huge punch but Meek dodges it nicely.
Name thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Meek's head.
Nablor Meek has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
No Name is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Meek missing with punches from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight!
No Name comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Name winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
