Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Lappin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, James Smith!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lappin throws a jab but it's blocked by Smith.
Smith goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Lappin looks to throw a body kick
and Smith counters with a stiff right hand.
A telegraphed right hand from Lappin misses the target.
Horrible takedown by Smith or perhaps it was just good defense by Lappin which made him look bad.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Smith doesn't manage to clinch there - Lappin circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Smith.
Chris Lappin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Smith.
Lappin throws a lazy right hand but Smith sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Smith counters with a head kick. That will keep Lappin thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

The fight stays on the outside here - Lappin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Lappin misses with a hook. Smith ducked under it nicely.
Lappin takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Smith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lappin, pushing him back against the cage.
Lappin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Lappin manages to break the clinch.
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lappin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.
Lappin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Smith wants to clinch up but Lappin keeps it at a distance.
Lappin scores with a kick to the body.
Smith looks gassed!
Lappin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Lappin misses with a looping left.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Smith.

Lappin dives in and grabs Smith's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes down on Lappin's head and hops out.
Smith moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Lappin misses with a head kick.
Lappin misses with a hook. Smith ducked under it nicely.
Lappin is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Smith's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Lappin misses with a looping left.
Smith blocks a head kick by Lappin.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lappin is defended easily by Smith.
Lappin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Chris Lappin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Smith counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Lappin throws an overhand right that lands on Smith's shoulder, as Smith tries to avoid the shot.

Lappin scores with a takedown into Smith's guard.
Smith looking for a sweep. Not yet Smith, not yet.

Lappin gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting.

Lappin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smith pinned against the cage. Smith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lappin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Smith punishes Lappin's body with a nice straight punch.

Smith gets tackled into the cage by Lappin. Lappin maintains the clinch.

Smith is fighting off a takedown attempt but Lappin is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Smith to the mat. Smith regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Lappin gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting.
Lappin stuffs the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Lappin tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Lappin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
James Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lappin is looking to clinch.
Lappin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Lappin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Smith closes the distance and clinches.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lappin smiles and moves away.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smith looking to control but Lappin passes into half guard.
Lappin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smith does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Lappin stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Smith to get to his feet.
Lappin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

and Smith counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Lappin fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Lappin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Smith avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Lappin tries to pull guard but Smith holds him up against the cage and eventually Lappin drops back down to his feet.

Smith wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Lappin lands a nice hook to Smith's body. Smith takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Smith drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lappin manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Smith has Lappin in his guard.
Lappin is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Smith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lappin paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Smith tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lappin swivels and escapes.
Lappin throws out a loose jab but Smith uses good head movement to avoid it.

Smith is trying hard to land a takedown here. Lappin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lappin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Lappin's legs - danger averted.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Lappin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Smith is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Smith has Lappin pulled in close to control his posture.
