PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dakota Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Mullen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mullen has chosen Country Boy Can Survive as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dakota Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Mullen!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Lou da Vinci and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Cooper as Mullen shoots in.
Mullen throws a series of punches but Cooper moves out of range.
Mullen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Cooper shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mullen but Mullen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cooper moves out of range of the body kick from Mullen.

Cooper scores a takedown into full mount!
Mullen is wriggling around trying to escape.
Mullen wants to hold on but Cooper pushes him away.
Cooper prevents Mullen from getting the reversal.

Cooper goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mullen turns into him and now he's in Cooper's guard.
Cooper utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mullen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Cooper wants to sweep but no luck.
Mullen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Mullen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cooper seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Mullen's chin but Mullen turns very nicely into Cooper's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Mullen.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Mullen lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Cooper has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Cooper and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Mullen wants to control from the top but Cooper keeps moving.

Mullen remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chris Mullen will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Cooper tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Cooper avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mullen connects with a jab.

Dakota Cooper is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cooper swats away the attempt to clinch by Mullen.

Cooper is trying to maintain a safe position but Mullen gets an underhook and turns Cooper into the cage.

Mullen wants to sweep but no luck.

Mullen is pulling down on Cooper's head. It's preventing any offense from Cooper, at least for the moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cooper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mullen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mullen wants to sweep but no luck.
Mullen wants to control the position but Cooper says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Cooper wants to get up but he can't break Mullen's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Mullen is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Chris Mullen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Mullen moves into the clinch successfully.
Cooper tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mullen smiles and moves away.
Cooper misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cooper takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Mullen clinches up with Cooper and pushes him back against the cage.
Cooper wants to get back to striking at distance but Mullen won't allow it.

Mullen jumps guard and drags Cooper to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Mullen pushes Cooper off and scrambles back to his feet.
Mullen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cooper moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mullen.

Mullen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Cooper escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mullen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cooper shoots in and drives through. Mullen sprawls well.

Mullen is taking a breather. Cooper says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Chris Mullen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mullen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
